Leaf blower problems

My wife uses a 2-cycle leaf blower to clean out her horse barn of shavings, hay, dust etc. Worked fine before we went on vacation...wouldn't start when we got home. Upon investigation, realized that friend that was taking care of the horses put kerosene in the tank (wasn't happy about that, but could have been worse if she put regular gas in it). Dumped out the kerosene and put mixed gas in it and it started right up.

Over the course of the next week, it gradually got harder and harder to start. Now, it won't start at all. Plug looked fine, but replaced it anyway with no luck. Any ideas...could the kerosene have affected the carb, or are the problems coincidental...

Any suggestions...

Check the muffler. There is usually a small screeen in there that is to stop sparks from leaving the engine and starting forest fires. The holes in the screen are tiny, and over time can get plugged with carbon and such from the engine exhaust.

There is a fuel filter on the end of the fuel line in the fuel tank also. Might be plugged with some dirt or debris that came from the Kerosene can.

Due to kero having a higher viscosity than gas, it might have some of the orifices filled with kero. You could also have an exhaust port plugged. I would take the carb off, blow out all the fuel lines, fuel filter, and the carb itself, put a diaphram/gasket kit in and that should solve your problem.

I dought that the kerosene damaged the carburetor. I suspect trash in the carburetor. A thorough cleaning of the entire fuel system would probably solve the problem. I would start with the filter in the gas tank. I have cleaned many of these carburetors and if you are careful you won't need a repair kit. If the gasket or diaphram sticks to a surface, just use a razor blade to gently release it. Or you could just buy a kit, they are relatively inexpensive.
