I've got a 3/8" Craftsman electric drill which must be 25 years old. It WAS a very good drill. The other day while working off a 6' step ladder it dropped HARD(from 5' up)to the concrete floor. It now works just fine but the motor is quite a little noisier. What do you suppose happened...broke a brush...? Should I continue using it...take it apart&inspect...? I'd like to save this good old drill.

As usual, thanks for your expertize, Glenn F.

I have a Craftsman 3/8 variable speed drill that is 30+ years old. It has an aluminum housing, I assume yours does too. If that is true, you probably have warped the housing, possibly not enough to notice, just a tweak. Gears are not meshing correctly or the armature is rubbing a field or something equally bad.

Just a few guesses but. You may have knocked a bearing out of wack, bent something, or as you said did something to a brush or its holder.
