OLD I mean OLD Forney welder

I bought a forney welder Saturday. It has the "taps" straight up and down, vertical on the front and the ground taps are on each side at bottom. The front panel where the taps are is made from WOOD. (I said it is OLD.) there is no model number anywhere I have found. the bottom just say ForneY and Adjusted for REA Power. Does anyone have any idea of model number or know where I could ask? I do have another Forney that is a CB60. It is a great machine to this day. I thought it was old before I bought this gem. Thanks.

My Dad bought a Miller at a sale in about the middle 1950's. It was old then my BIL still has and uses it. Dad and I bought a new AC DC welder years ago and he gave to Jerry, with the condition it was still his if he wanted it back. Dad has been gone for 20 years so its Jerry's now.

Those old Forney welders were built to last. My BIL has one that my nephew is still using. Don't know the model though.

Hi Dick,

Wouldn't it be a strange thing if the reason that the Forney Company is no longer in business is that they built welders so well that nobody ever needed to buy a second one. Talk about your cosmic injustice.

Stan,

Forney is very much still in business. They are based in Ft. Collins, CO, the same place they started out over 60 years ago. I don't think they still build welders, but all the local hardware stores here in Michigan carry Forney welding supplies.

There's also a Forney Transportation Museum in Denver, built by the founder of Forney.

I suspect that an email to either Forney Industries or the Forney Museum about this old welder would get an interested reply.

Do not have a forney, but I have an old 180 amp Sears Roebuck buzz box dating to 49 I think. I have the orig manual and sales slip. Still works great, it is 100% duty cycle at 125 amps. Works better than the tombstones, but less ranges.
