New truck advice

Summer mileage 28 miles per Imperial gallon
Winter mileage 25 mpg

In 11 years and 337,000 km it has needed the repairs listed below.

1 dist. cap and wires
1 set of brake calipers and rotors (back brakes still fine)
1 timing chain
1 radiator
1 muffler
1 gas tank
1 battery
1 starter rebuild
1 backup light sensor
56 oil changes
some paint and spark plugs
tailgate assembly replaced under warranty at 5 yr.

That's it.

I drive a '93 Nissan p/u that I bought when it was a year old with 13K miles on it. It is the best running, most trouble free vehicle I have ever owned. To be fair though, it's only got 170K miles on it now, I've never used it for towing, rarely hauled as much as twice its rated capacity, or driven it on unimproved road.

My wife's younger brother, who owns a tile and marble company, favors Dodge trucks and seems to go through them pretty fast. Of course he's image conscious too, and a new truck makes you look successful so I don't know how much that plays into it.

My wife got a Toyota 2000, fine car with no major issues since new; we just gave that to our son and she picked up another.

I bought a new F-350 diesel in 2001. I like my truck but the engine has been pulled out twice, I replace ball joints, alternator, starter motor, I has oil leaks.

I probably won't buy anything but Japanese brands in the future.

I'd get a Toyota.

I just hope this new Powerstroke 6.0 holds up a lot better than the early models have! If you look at all the recalls on full size trucks from all the big three, it's not hard to see why Ford and GM are in big financial trouble. They can spend millions to put their names on football stadiums and millions to have Superbowl commercials, but can't build a vehicle as reliable as the J@ps did 30 years ago! These id1ots think the first thing you do when you're in trouble is spend more money you don't have to develope new models. How about perfecting the ones you have? Also, spending over $20 million on a new CEO doesn't exactly sound fiscally responsible either.
