Pardon my spelling:

Galegher or Zebara? Which is better - those are the 2 available 'round here? Going for a 50 or 100 mile 110v set up, keep those hooved critters attention on the inside of the pasture, not looking outside....

I have a Galligaer (sp?). I have a 3 joule unit running two wires that works great. Lower wire will be put into the weeds when I am opening a new area, and it burns through them just fine. Total run is just under 2 miles

Try a Parmak - I think you will pleased. Not the cheapest, but tough, dependable and serviceable.

I've had Gallagher, Zebara, and now have Paramark. I like the Parmark the best. All three were rated the same, 100 miles or x amount of joules. I run a single or double wire energerized fence for dairy cows and heifers encompassing about 100 acres broken into 10 to 1 acre paddocks. I've never taken a reading of less then 6000 volts with the Parmark, even when there was alot of vegatation on the fence. The other 2 fencers would draw right down to less then 1000 volts and sooner or later the heifers would figure that out. 1000 volts dosn't bother them a bit.

I use a charger sold by Premier in Iowa. It's called a wide impedence charger because the voltage doen't fall off as fast with load as a low impedence charger. They're pricey but I live in an area where the natural rainfall is low and low impedence chargers like Gallagher (which I have used very sucessfully in higher rainfall areas) don't perform well in dry conditions without going to a dual wire set up (one hot and one ground). You can look at Premier on www.premier1supplies.com

I find those numbers meaningless, actually. They rate them at the point they are no longer useful - like shop vac or air compressor motor hp ratings these days - 6hp rating off a 110v 20 amp plug???? :) Nope, doesn't compute.

5 or 10 mile fencers don't cut it if you have 2 miles of wire - a few weeds & dew and you got nothing that bothers holstien crosses any more....

I repair fence chargers, Parmak is the only co. with reasonable repair parts pricing. You will need repairs when lightning strikes.Just spent a lot of time finding a Speedrite transformer.Price I got was 67.00 plus 11.00 shipping my cost.Parmak transformers sell for 25.00 to my customers and I have 4 on the shelf.Buy a Parmak charger from a shop that can repair it.Zareba chargers have the output transformer epoxied to the circuit board. If a transformer fails you have to replace the entire insides of the charger.40.00 the last I knew plus 9.00 shipping.
