I have had water in my hot water heat pipes for years, but now i would like to use antifreeze in them. What kind and how much should i use? Right now i have water in the 1st floor pipes only, but i would like to heat my 2nd floor at times. If i have antifreeze in the pipes, will it keep the 2nd floor pipes from freezing if i do not heat it?

Propylene Glycol is a food grade anti-freeze that will protect your system to below zero. You can find it in wally world, the pink rv anti-freeze. A good hvac company would have it in bulk and could install it for you.
