two cycle engine problems

I was given an old weed eater and a Lawnboy mower. The weed eater hasn't been used in over 5 years, the mower at least 2 years. Both had old mixed gas in tanks. Any tips for cleaning or flushing the old gas from the fuel lines and carburetor?
I got the mower to start twice and run for about 10 seconds each time but hasn't started since then.
I can't seem to get any spark from the weed eater. Can't see a spark or feel a spark when i pull the cord. Have I acquired some green scrap iron?
Any help appreciated.

Just dump the old gas out and refill with fresh gas.On a 2 cycle that has not been run for that long, you will probably have to replace the diaphram in the carburetor. They dry out after setting that long as a rule and will not suck gasoline out of the tank & into the carburetor as a result.
The weedeater flywheel has probably gotten rusty and it and the coil legs will need to be sanded.

Neither is a big job.

Yea, my father-in-law gave me two Lawnboy mowers, up till that point, I thought he liked me.

Scrap iron! or aluminum or white metal, what ever the heck those useless pieces of junk are made of.

Try plastic. My sister brought me an old Lawn Boy knockoff sold by Canadian Tire. This thing had a kitchen pot scraper as an air filter. The plastic tank and plastic air filter were nothing. This thing had a plastic carburetor. It was easy to take apart, I'll grant that.

No amount of persuasion would revive this turkey, though it would run for ten seconds if I gave it a drink through the carburetor. The plastic gas cap had disintegrated, the float was crusted with rusty looking goop, and the seals were long gone. A missing plastic plug in the back of the air cleaner would have provided a ram jet of dirty air to the carb if it ever ran. It joined the other three dead lawn mowers in the barn.

Don"t forget that on a 2 cycel the crankshaft seals have to be good for them to draw enough fuel to start
