Anyone have a fix on getting rid of moss/alge in ponds? I've removed it by hand but thats a lots of work. Thanks

Hi Jack,

You might want to google up taking care of fish tanks, or Koi fish as it seams to have the most info. I believe most algea is a lack of oxygen problem. A small air pump would resolve the problem and the fish can be eaten.

This may sound funny but go to a pet store or bait shop and buy a dozen or so gold fish. Give them 2 or 3 weeks and you will find a big dent in the slim on your pond

Barley straw is great for removing ammonia but to get rid of algae you could use carp or crayfish- or you could use chemicals like anything with copper in it. The best fix is to get some plants in your pond that you like to use up the excess nutrients in the pond to compete with the algae. Course this all depends on the size of the pond!

Get a couple of sterile grass carp and put in the pond. They will eat the algae, moss and grass and keep it clean.

You might want to do a search, this has been a popular topic in the past. There are lots of ways of combating Algae.. Copper Sulphate, Aquashade pond dye, some even swear by barley straw...

The copper sulfate works real good folks. Need a row boat or something to drag a little bad around the pond. Better is to crush up the dose"something like a pound per acher" and mix it in a big sprayer with water. Spray the pond and no more green bloom. Jeffcat
