Quality Plumbing Valves Finish and Utility

We have shut off valves everywhere, but they are all so corroded I have to turn off at the main to do anything at all. The screw down kind do not seem to work very well so I think I am looking for ball valves.

I can get decent ball valves at the box store for in the walls and basement, but where can I find finish valves that are not plastic junk for under the toilet, sink, etc. etc.

Home Depot, and probably Lowe's, carry Brasscraft brand shutoff valves. They are U.S. made, solid brass body, and are decent looking. I have used them for years and generally been pleased with them. Well, actually, earlier this year I did get one with a cracked body or some other flaw so that I had to replace the faucet supply valve twice to correct the original seeping problem. I wish I'd had that single problem years ago followed by no other problems instead of the other way around. Still, I'm mainly satisfied, with reservations. H.D. sells a Brasscraft supply valve with a 90 degree shutoff, which means it has to be a ball valve.

I'd expect you to be able to find higher quality supplies in a plumbing supply store with a retail department. Be sure you talk to someone who's spent a good deal of time in the field using the equipment they sell rather than just a salesperson. Someone with 30 to 40 years experience would be good.
