Hi

I found and old 1/2 inch drill,It does not work there was a wire broken off that the brushes hook to,so i need to soilder it back on.The question i have is this drill is a ZEPHYR i have not heard of this drill name before.Model is 510,4.5 amps,and ac-dc is that possible to be that.It said on the back for service return to portable electric tool inc , chgo 20 ill.Is there any place like that in chicago yet?

I have found brushes in the local ACE hardware. I needed brushes for a 3/4 in impact wrench and found it there. Most generic sizes can be found most manufactuers did go to the expense of having special brushes made up.

I think it's safe to assume that the "Portable Electric Tool" company is long gone. Even if they were bought out by a company that's still around, I don't think you're going to be able to get them to service your drill motor.

"Chicago 20" is an old-style Postal Zone. These addresses were used between 1943 and 1963. Zones were replaced by ZIP codes. In fact, "ZIP" stands for "Zone Improvement Plan".

Brush-type motors in power tools WITHOUT electronic variable-speed controls are UNIVERSAL MOTORS, and WILL run on either AC or DC.
