Thanks to you guys I got corn this year. pulled about 300 ears last night. still haven't seen any dead coons but have seen one small dead possum. probably see the coons whenever I go into the woods behind the garden. I always plant four rows of corn and usually only have about 3 to 4 quarts of corn so this was great to finally get some home grown corn(silver queen)

I just poored some flybait into a styrfoam plate and some coke to cover it. flybait came from local farm supply store but I do not remember the name. someone earlier said verona(sp)? I think. latest I tried sams cola but I am not sure how it worked as this was last night. I think it is the sweetness they like(the coons). cats and dogs supposedly do not try to eat it.

Where do you get "flybait"? any brand names you can recommend, as I've got coons that raise heck with my grape vines. Also, will dogs or cats lap up this mixture? The wife has a couple of kitties, and she would rather see me go than them, so I gotta be careful about what I put out to kill the rodents..... ..

What ratio did you mix the bait and cola. My dog is still chasing coons and the bait pails are untouched.

I'd guess we put about 1-2 cups of flybait, and then, oh I dunno, a 2 liter botttle will fill 4-5 pans of the bait. Last year we got 12-15 confirmed kills. This year we've only found 3 but the damage has been less. Last year I think we did a number on the population, now it's just maintnance.

The main thing is, it's gotta be Coka-Cola. It can be lime or vanilla, but the Coke is key. A freind of my mom did some experimenting with other soda's and poisons. The Coke and flybait was the absolute best.

Hmmm. I used the House Brand cola from the local groccery store rather than Coke. I'll have to try some fresh bait and maybe re-locate it. I had one pail hanging on the corner post of the turkey pen. Maybe I'll try 30 yards away along the creek. I wonder what bait would interest the coyotes but the dog would leave alone?

This summer, I took 2 plastic gallon jugs, and cut off one SIDE, making a tray.

I sprinkle the "coon food" evenly over the bottom, more or less covering it.

The, I pour COKE slowly over the coon food, to a depth of 1/2" to 3/4". I do NOT stir it or mix it up. It "fizzes" for a little while, like one of Grandpa's concoctions on the "Munsters".

So far, 9 coons (the ones I have found) within a 2' to 50' radius of the "food" seemed to have had a nice last meal.
