Well I posted a few weeks ago on a town car that would not crank sometimes....othertimes it was great. When it would not crank the solenoid would not even click.
I changed the solenoid/starter assy. and all is well for the last few weeks. Keeping fingers crossed :)
Must have been an open winding in the solenoid when warm.
I still could not get the starter to fail on the bench though.

My dad had that problem most of the 7 years he owned a '73 Fort Torino. He'd replace the starter, once on the side of the road on a fishing trip, and it would work a year or two. In 1980 while I was driving Mom around after he'd had a bad heart attack, it did it for me and I found power at the soleniod up on the fender, but not at the starter. I jumped them with a battery jumper cable and it started. My next stop was at a car parts store where I left it idling while I bought a new cable. When I took the old one off, I found the crimp at the starter end was loose and arced black inside. I believe that new cable fixed it permanently, though since I sold it the next week, I'll never know for sure. Just his changing the starter made the lug connect for a while.

Are you certain the neutral safety switch is good? They sometimes require a wiggle of the gear shift. And poor cable connections act that way.
