I went to start my Homelite weed whip and I noticed that one of the gas lines was just hanging there. It had broke off flush with the plastic tank where it had been inserted. I dumped all of the gas out of the tank and found out that the second gas line was also broken off inside. I dumped both pieces out and found out that they both would crumble between my fingers. Is this the result of using gas with ethanol in it? I just used it a few weeks ago. It is almost like the gas turned the lines to mush. Will small engine repair places have replacement lines , or do I have to try and fabricate some lines. I don't even know how long the line should be inside of the tank and I could not find any trace of a filter or something on the end of the line to hold it down in the gas.

That is a problem with modern gasoline, and small engine gas lines/carb gaskets. I started using STABIL in my small engine fuel (including 2 cycle) about 8 years ago. I use it year round, not just in winter when I am expecting to store it for a longer period. I haven't had a deteriorated fuel line or carb problem with amy of my small enignes since.

Go to the hobby shop and buy a couple feet of model plane fuel line. Ask for a weighted filter, too. Put the line into the tank from the outside thru the fuel line hole, pull a few inches out the filler neck and add the filter. Pull it carefully back in till there is enough to flop around and drop into the deepest part of the tank. Replace tank and cut line to length.

Find a repair place/dealer that handle/fixes that brand of machine and he will have or be able to get you the lines and also know how long they should be. As far as them going bad yep it could well be the wrong type of gas being used. I know some companys tell you not to use gas with alcohol in it etc

I talked to my brother-in-law who repairs small engines. He said that this happens and that he buys lines at the local Farm Fleet store. He said that they have lines of different sizes and may even have the filter for on the end of the line. By the way Old, thanks for your hospitality when we visited your place to look at your old iron as we passed through Missouri. We enjoyed it
