I am just getting started working with old tractors. Currently rebuilding a 1948 John Deere model B. When I got to tearing the engine apart I realized I needed some measuring instrument to determine sizes and measure wear. I have two questions: 1. What tools have you experienced guys found to be the most useful (calipers, micrometers, etc)?? 2. Do I need to spend big money for big name manufactures or can less expensive imports do a credible job?? Your advise will be geatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill, I have gotten quite a few tools from an outfit called Harbor Freight. Everything I have got is decent quality and reasonable priced. You can get a catalog by going to harborfreight.com . The catalog is free and if you get on their mailing list you will get a catalog about every 2 weeks with different items on sale. I've had good luck with them. Good Luck with your restoration.
