Kohler Power Pro Generator

I got an old Kohler Power Pro 5000W Generator - the one with the Kohler K301 engine that is only showing 2-3 volts in what should be a 120v socket. The 220v socket shows 5 volts.

Any suggestions?

Terminal due to the cost of fixing?

Any leads on a good manual

I have a 12hp Kohler of the same vintage on my Hobart portable welder. I got a manual from Kohler. I recommend checking out the website www.hobbytalk. There are people at that site who have dealt with similar problems.
To excite the windings on my welder I have to continue to hold the starter button in for 15 seconds after the engine reaches full rpms.

Do a search, there have been several discussions here, concerning "Flashing" a generator to excite the coils. Requires using an electric drill motor.

I've flashed it using a double mail plus into a 120v outlet in the garage.

It worked a year ago but not now

That's a NASTY way to "flash" a generator"! I'm surprised you didn't have a BIG spark at the plug, or trip a breaker, BECAUSE when you connect two AC current systems together that are not at the EXACT frequency, and in-phase, nasty things happen! (Which is probably how the term "FLASH" came to be!)
