Trying to setup a cordless phone at a cabin. I"m powering the phone (9vdc) with a radio shack power adapter from the 12vdc battery bank, but am getting a lot of static from the inverter/charger hooked up to them. To charge the battery"s a solar panel and genertor are used. What is needed to get crystal clear reception?

One of the phones I used to have, ran on 12v dc. I would check the transformer and see what the output voltage is. You may be able to hook directly to the batteries and avoid the inverter, and charger.
Good luck in your quest.

Take a standard phone (Ma Bell type) and plug it in first to make sure that it's the cordless...and make sure that the cordless "base" is disconnected/unplugged from the jack when you test it. If the static's still there, it aint the cordless. Could be your inside phone wiring too. Often anymore, the netpop on the house where your line(s) come in have a modular jack that you can plug a good phone into, disconnecting the inside phone wiring. If you have such a jack, and the staic's still there, and the phone you're testing with is good, the problem's ours (Telco). If the static's gone, and the cordless is disconnected, it's inside wiring, possibly a jack with shorted or corroded pins.

At least 90% of residential repairs turn out to be the cordless phone base unit though, and its easy money sending a guy out to prove it, then bill the customer for their bad equipment. I don't know that it will work, but could go to Radio Shack and pick yourself up a couple of RF choke coils that might dissipate harmonics if are RF based. Basically, they are nothing more than two magnets that face each other, and you wind the cord that goes to the jack around them, and they form a choke. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it don't. They are cheap though, and worth a try.

You might try one of the generic car stereo interference filters from Rat Shack. Or locate the phone farther away from the inverters, Shield the inverters, or all of the above.

A little difficult to understand your exact conditions with the information provided. I guess your noise is coming from the inverter/charger. How does the phone operate on a 9V battery? Is it only when charger is working etc? Find by disconnecting each unit or turning it off as to the source. What vintage and frequency is the phone? Most of the inverters use switching power supplies that put out harmonics that cause interference through a broad range of frequencies.
