When I find an interesting item on this site, I highlight it and click on "File" which opens a drop down menu. I click on "Save As.." and it opens a list of all the things I've saved before. I'll type in a name for the new file and click on "Save". It's then added to the list, some of which are in black letters and some are blue letters. But no matter what I do, I can't figure out how to get a file to open. If I go to "File" and "Open", I have no idea of what the "Internet address" is. How can I access a file from the list??? (Windows XP)

What I find useful is a nifty little free program called CutePDF. Install it, then when you see something you"d like to save, go to the print menu, and CutePDF shows up as a printer option in the pulldown. It will then ask you for a file name; name it something you"d recoginze. You also need the free converter program; theres a link to it too, on the website (Ghostscript).

I use it a lot.

Just another idea. Instead of saving links to the information, save the information itself. Copy and paste interesting information into a document saved on your computer. Then you could organize topics into a different file name.

That way, if the website ever changes its link structure, you won't have a bunch of links that point to nowhere. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's a real pain.

As stated below, put it in favorites and make it available offline. When online the latest version will show. I just counted and I have 109 of those, most of which I never look at. You don't need to accept the name it automatically gives either. Change it so that it makes sense to you.

Assuming your using MS Internet Explore as your browser, when you get the small dialog box asking for the address, there are three buttons, Ok Cancel and Browse. If you click browse it will open another window just like the one you used to save it with. Just navigate to find the same folder and double click on it and it will send it to the first window and then Ok. That should open up the correct website. On of the benifits of saving a page is that you can veiw it without being connected to the internet. The downside is that it takes up memory on your computers hard drive. Another way to open saved webpages is to find the actuall folder where it is stored and double click on it there and it will then open up in the browser. (PS make sure you are clicking on the HTML file (the one with the same icon as your browser) not the associated folder with the same name)

If you wish to save an internet address to be able to return to the same site later, click "favorites", then "add to favorites". This will put it in your favorites list. If you wish to save the text of an explanation or some other type of document, create a text document in your "my documents" folder, name it, then copy and paste the text into the text document. It will remain in the "my documents" folder for easy access.
