Planning on moving up from my 10"makita sliding compond miter saw to a Dewalt 12" sliding compond miter, any info good or bad would help. Thanks in advance.

I sawed the tips off my left Hand Index and Second Finger ripping on a Dewalt Radial Saw so when I went looking at a Mitre Saw I got real bad Vibes when I looked at the Dewalt Slider. Need less to say I have a 12" Dewalt Non Slider in the shop to use.I might mention that I have equipped several Saws with the Vermont/American Laser Guide. It works very well for minimum cost.I also might mention that I am VERY-VERY- VERY attentive around any kind of Saw now.

The Dewalt 12" sliding is an excellent saw, you can do alot more with this saw than the fixed version, but it is big, heavy and awkward to handle.

We use 'em both in our business as remodeling contractors. They are both good saws. I find myself considering what I will be cutting and do I really "need" the slider because it a bugger to drag around! Doorways are not fun to get through with it!

I have a NON sliding 12" DeWalt and like the others have said, I love it. It is very accurate. I built a Norm Abram Portable table for it and it works really well.

Working with Habitat for Humanity, I have used a sliding 12" saw and I see some advantages with it and disadvantages. I am not used to the sliding feature because I have not used my radial arm saw much in the last few years. I see some added danger in using the slider but on the other hand it doesn't limit the width of the cut like the non slider does.

In either case, I don't think you can go wrong with a 12" DeWalt.

Dave

Same as John; I really like my 12 inch non-sliding Dewalt. I"ve built several large decks with it.

I've had the 12" slider for a few years. EXCELLENT SAW!! Very heavy.
