For anyone that might be interested...near KC, MO...only one yard is close enough to drive to but called five and they all quoted about the same prices.

$.51 per pound for one 22 lb. cast aluminum car wheel--
$11.22.

$.21 per pound for 6 lb. of storm window frames--$1.26.

$.51 per pound for 840 lbs. of alum. construction scaffolding--
$428.40.

$.67 per pound for 149 lbs. of beer cans.--$99.83.

The scaffolding was clean of steel bolts, etc. Some had safety orange paint which reduced the price of all by 2 or 3 cents per pound. I thought the scaffolding would bring more than the cans.

It's getting bad when ,,,,scrapers stole the alumimun off the bleachers at the Soapbox derby track across street from my dads . He said that home builders will wait till house is sold or closed up before they run wiring or copper plumbing,,bastages steal it right outta the house .

I heard this story from a guy I know:

He bought a small aluminum boat sight unseen from a brother in law for 75 bucks, was told it didn"t leak, in law dropped it off at his place en route upstate from where he lived.

The guy got home from work, looked over the boat....the thing had bathroom silicone and roofing tar all over the seams in the back, the corners of the transom were ripped and buckled, and it appeared to be paper thin at the stern from being dragged up on the beach. Disgusted, he dragged it behind the shed.

Later on he hauled it off for scrap, and got $127 for it! He called the in law up and asked "Got any more boats for sale?" :)

We took down a 30 year old pool (extruded aluminum frame, 12x24 and deck 12x10) and got 71 cents a pound for it. We orginally agreed to take it for free planning to re-erect it at our place. After a pricing a new liner and a few other things I decided to go with one of those big round ones with a float ring (no frame). Took it in in two loads. Had cut all the long pieces to 8' or less and all steel bolts removed. I snaged little over $800 when I was done.

I took aluminum cans off today.
Got 60 cents per pound.
Was 72 cents last time I took them off.
Few weeks ago they were down to 51 cents.
Glad I waited till this week to do it.

I could get more for them if I took them
over to Chattanooga, but I would lose out on gas over there.

mj, i dint heist the scaffolding, i rilly dint! Got an 8 foot stack at auction for $300, kept one unbent section plus 25 or so heavy-
duty casters...spent a sweaty day cleaning it of steel bits. It was all fold-up, larger than regular steel scaffold, with foldup stairs. Woulda been better off just buying one new section which is what I needed...but the steps were a body-saver on a long project...on the other hand, I also had to load and haul it twice....It's like this, turn it over, it's like that....

I'm just kidding. I know you didn't steal the scaffolding. I just thought it was amusing and that's why I put a winking smiley face at the end. Sorry, didn't mean to offend.

Yes, mjb, I got a grin the first time, that's the reason for the exclamation points and the odd spelling...thieves don't usually announce their accomplishments publicly....Now that we got that straight...
