Rigid tablesaw model TS 3650...Any good?

I was in our Home Depot this morning and happened to see a 10" Rigid brand tablesaw regularly $550, for $440. It is belt drive. Motor is 3450 rpm, 1.5 hp, 6.5 amp. Lifetime parts/labor warranty on the motor and switches. The complete saw weighs 287 lbs. It would be for home use, replacing my OLD 8" Craftsman. It doesn't have to be professional grade, but I sure don't like buying junk either. Is this saw any good? As always, I appreciate your responses.

Craftsman table saws, the cheaper ones at least, are made by Rexon which also makes the Tradesman line sold in Lowes.

What happened with Emerson was this. They were making power tools for Sears. A number of people got hurt using a radial arm saw made by Emerson as they stuck their hands in the rotating blades.

Emerson was sued and lost even though their saws complied with consumer requirements at the time. The saws were recalled and either Emerson or Sears had to buy the saws back from the owners.

Sears dropped Emerson as a supplier of RAS in an attempt to avoid being sued also. Emerson went on to purchase Ridgid. Home Depot purchasd a license from Emerson to use the Ridgid name for a store brand of power tools.

The Ridgid stationary power tools are still made by Emerson but most of the Ridgid portable power tools(cordless drills etc.) are made by the OWT which also makes many of the Ryobi line.

Go for the Rigid saw, have some friends who have them and are very satisfied.

Stop by your local H.D. and pick up a 10% off customer appreciation coupon which is good from 7/27 - 7/30. You will save even more this way.

Don't mean to steal the thread but if you need a random orbital sander, get the 5" Rigid R2600 or the 6" Rigid 2610. Make sure on the 2610 because it is made in Germany by Metabo and the 2611 is China Inc.

Something is not right with those figures on the motor. A 1 1/2 hp motor at 240 volts will require about 10 amperes, at 120 volts, about 20 amperes.

The HD website has thais saw listed as 1 1/2 HP, 13 amps @ 120 volts. The 6.5 volts would be @ 220 volts.

At those amperage figures, the motor is at most a 1 hp.

Just because a label lists something, does not make it true. No way is that a 1 1/2hp motor at 6.5 amps 240 volts.

i dont know the model but i always see the same rigid table saw at the home depot and one of my carpenter buddys says its the best one. its got casters onthe bottom so u can move it all around the shop. plus the lifetime warrenty on all rigid stuff. our carpentry shop started replacing our old tools with rigid. by next year i hope we'll have that new table saw

I was in the market for a good table saw a little over a year ago and looked at many different brands. I ended up buying the Ridgid TS3650 and am very satisfied with it. It is heavy and stable yet easy to move with the wheels that are mounted on it. It took me a while to get wheel assembly mounted and adjusted properly but works good and was worth the time it took. The the cast iron table is well made, smooth and flat. The fence that came with it is very well made, works smoothly and is easy to set and adjust and does not move or flex when locked like on other brands I looked at. I wired my motor for 220 volts. The saw runs very quiet and smooth with plenty of power. The blade that came with saw was a good quality blade and is holding up very well. I doubt that I will ever need to buy another table saw but if I did I would buy the Ridgid TS3650. You will not find a better saw for the money. Go for it. Just keep the cast iron table waxed or lightly oiled to prevent rust. I used WD40 on mine for the winter months as the saw is kept in an unheated shop.

The salesman told me it was a 3450. I didn't see the number myself. Perhaps he was mistaken.

If it was Home Depot, the "salesman" was probably about 12 years old and doesn't know a tablesaw from a blender. Last weekend I was at Home Depot in the lawn and garden department. A customer was asking the salesman about one of those lawn sprinklers that looks like a tractor and rides on the hose. The customer asked how it moved. The genius salesman told him it was cordless battery powered. I just shook my head and wandered off.

That"s probably the best deal on a good saw that you will get anymore. I bought one a (good quality closeout model "made in USA" Delta) a few years ago and did a LOT of research. Seems that the Craftsman saws were built and powered by Emerson who got kicked off the supplier list by the need/desire/cost to "out-source" overseas. The Rigid series was a Home Depot move to get a quality source.

I paid $380 delivered for a cast-iron Delta made in the USA with an Emerson belt-drive 1.5hp motor. This was about 6 years ago now and although aluminum has replaced iron in most tables, the Ridgid offers most everything that I would need.

I would go for it without hesitation. For asurance do web searches on that model number.

The story i got was that Emerson was making tools for craftsman. craftsman thought they could do cheaper/better, and dropped them to go overseas. Ridgid picked up the emerson production and here we are. I'm sold on the ridgid tools. what's not to like...lifetime warranty on all power tools for everything but drill bits and saw blades--everything includes cordless batteries. a great deal in my book. i just bought the big cordless kit...seems just as well made as any other brand.

It must be the best kept secret, cause I got a different story than all of you. I was told Emerson was making the same tool for some one else that was the very same design as the craftsman and Sears sued and won. You know Craftsman is hard to match cause something is different about all their tools from anyone else, making a comparsion impossible. Not that Sears is better, but different.
