Mac chain saw question

My chain saw has a little primer bulb on the side just above the housing for the rewind started. It has instructions on the top saying to push it 10 times before you start it. Mine has a crack in it and sucks air instead of fuel but seems to run ok otherwise. It also seems to start ok with the choke even without the primer.

How hard is it to change that primer bulb? Or should I even bother with it?

The primer bulb is to get gas up into the carb quickly. One or two pulls as to a dozen pulls. This is helpful if the motor has set a long time and drained down. If the bulb is sucking then you are pulling in crud to your engine. I would get a new one. Most mower supply places can fix you up with original or replacement. Your choice. Jeffcat

I can"t address the Mac directly but I just went throught the same thing on a Briggs lawnmower engine. The bulb is retained with a clip. With some pressing with a screwing tool point it can be lifted out. Briggs supposely had a special tool for the purpose. With that said, if it starts I wouldn"t bother.

Ok, that helps. Can I take the bulb off from the outside or do you have to get behind that cover to get to the clip you're talking about?

Or like you say, maybe I'll just put some silicone on the crack and not worry about it. I loaned it to my dad and he said he didn't even know it had a primer.

Thanks, that makes sense now. It looks like a pretty cheap fix, I'll get a new primer bulb and replace it. I can probably even find one here locally.
