powder coating on galvanized tubing

This is probably a question that is not exactly suited to this forum, but I've found that there is a wide range of experiences among our readers so here goes: I'm planning to build a baby bed for my grandbaby, and the only 1" tubing I can find that bends like I want it to is electrical conduit. Will powder coating stick to this and not crack or peel? It seems that I've seen it applied to chromed parts with no problem.

Absolutely. Almost anything metal can be powder coated if it is prepared correctly. I am a retired supervisor of a powder paint operation for a major manufacturer of comminications equipment. We had to provide a 20 year guarantee against rust through and 95% of what we powder painted was galvanized steel. The manner in which the steel is cleaned and preped is more important than the actual powder coating process. For inside use, the metal can be of a lesser degree of cleanliness for the power coating to adhere and look good. For powder coating to be effective against rust and corrosion, all peramiters in the operation must be adhered to closely, or you will have the rust problem as someone else posted about. Chemical ratios and temperatures in the cleaning process were checked and documented as were the temperatures in the curing process. Powder paint is temperature and time sensative. I doubt very seriously if any of the cheap home powder systems such as Harbor Freight sells would provide any protection against corrosion.

I've only seen it applied to bare metal, dacromet, and zinc phosphate. Best guess is that it would not stick to galvanized steel very well.

I install posts daily that are powdercoated galvanized tubing. I also put up metal gazebos that are powder coated over bare metal. They rust all the time, although I realize your project isn't meant for outside use.
