O.T.----Looking for old style barn lights

My little wife is looking for 1-2 of the old style lights you used to see in gas stations and some barn yards back in the 50's (probably even earlier).
Anyway, they were basically a metal shade with a single bulb, supported by (usually) a curved arm coming from the pole.
I found 1 on ebay, but got frustrated playing the "bidding war" with a computer.
Anyone know what I'm talking about, or where there might be some available? Even a repproduction would be fine.
Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I put up a couple of these fine old lights on my back porch. These have the metal reflector which is 16 or18" diameter green enamel on the outside and white inside. These came out of the plant I work at and have the round glass globe and all. These are explosion proof (1940s style) and look pretty nice all polished up. For a gooseneck on them this would be an easy matter of bending up some 1/2" waterpipe or rigid conduit.

I got at Lowe"s a couple of years ago and had to modify it for a vertical mount. If they don"t currently carry them, ask their supplier - they"re usually in the store a few time a week. Maybe another retailer carries them.

I got one still hanging on the pole attached to the old single strand overhead wires, it's all coming down as soon as my new well gets drilled and power run underground. Will sell it if I can get it down without wrecking it. If you're close by you can come help take it down.

Saw them at Menards (regional box store, like HD, Lowes, etc.) last year. Didn't look this year....

you can stil buy them. begger to find but you can cause I just bought 34 of them for 2 different barns I'm working on. I'll get the info you need ta get 'em tomorrow. I'd hunt for it now but I got one of them throbbin' headaches and am about done in for now...

We use to sell exactly what you�re describing in our hardware store. Closest thing I can find in the catalog now, is on a straight arm with a 90 deg fitting on the end rather than the curved arm. Otherwise it�s about the same. Go to your local �True Value Hardware� and ask to see SKU 425058 or 425082. Ill try to post a link to the picture but not sure if it will be available to see without being registered on their site.

See 'em in restrurants all the time, either galvanized or painted, usually dark green.

Link six bids and over a hundered dollars for what they claim is a original light, and not a repro.

WOW !!! It will be interesting to see what that fixture ends at... I picked up 3 of those at a flea for 5 dollars. I am going to clean them up & hang them someday. I also lucked up on a big shade, red, mounted on a pole, that was used at the gas pumps at a service station. It uses the big mogul base bulbs, I hope they are still available. It should not be hard to find a new green-shade fixture, they are quite popular, now that the Retro look is popular. I have seen them at Home Depot.

You can still get the mogul bulbs. Fair size in the amount of bucks though. My dad has a couple from the old fair grounds. They have the big flat pushin type bulbs. Huge bulbs that when first made had a bamboo filament! The shade is almost three feet across! Lucky for him he has the adapters for the Mogul bulbs at 300 watts. I have a very nice one in my kitchen for the past 20 years that I got from a restaurant. They were moving a few service bars and I got three of them. The best is in the kitchen. Very heavy and is all enamal finish. Looks great and has a dimmer in the wall switch. jeffcat

I dug some out of my dad's garage and made my own poles for them out of copper pipe. I have two them hanging on my garage. I've seen them at auctions, flea markets, garage sales etc. The old ones are really so much better than the new ones. They were made from better metal and had really thick enamel.
