I have an old KH brake controller. It taps into the brake line of the vehicles master cylinder. Does anyone make this kind of controller?

I had a hydraulic tap in type on my 76 Ford F-250 and it worked really well.

I bought a new Tekonsha Prodigy for my new Dodge 3500 and to me there is no comparison. The Prodigy is the best controller I've ever used.

I have used most every type of brake control out there, and the Tekonsha Prodigy is the best I have ever used. It costs a bit more, but you would not believe the difference! I would never tap into the brakes hydraulic system, with todays electronic ABS systems. Too much risk, although one man here, says his works great.

Tekonsha probably still has a model that works that way. They are the best known in that business. But the newer, electronic ones work so much better, there would be little to gain by going old school. Especially with the proliferation of anti-lock brakes on most trucks.

For large trucks, yes. For ordinary cars and trucks, not since the advent of dual brakes. Vehicle manufacturers are unwilling to allow the unbalance of adding the brake controller cylinder to one half of the brake system or even allowing someone to tap into the hydraulics, though I sure would prefer such a controller to the pedulum style.

Also they are not for use on vehicles with anitlock brakes.

Not so fast...I use a Kelsey-Hayes brake controller that taps into the master cylinder on my 2003 F-350. It's worked great for over 8 months now and doesn't affect the ABS of the truck. I wouldn't ever go back to a inertia or pendulum type of controller again. The K-H gives me proportional braking of my trailers and only the BrakeSmart controller compares but at a hefty price tag. I bought this K-H on Ebay for $30 including shipping. The Ford IBC is also proportional but wasn't available on my truck.

I think that mine is model 7140C and made in 1991. It uses less fluid displacement than the earlier model and is approved for use on ABS equiped vehicles.
