Has anybody had any experience with the ultrasonic repellers, or scent type devices for getting rid of squirrels?

They nearly destroyed my roof rafters. D-Con mixed into peanut butter solved my problem.....

I had trouble with squirrels in my shop until I put out some water with one leg of 120 v. in it. The other leg was attached to a copper sheet positioned so the squirrel had to be standing on it to get a drink. Thought maybe I'd fry a squirrel, but they disappeared without leaving a carcase. I never knew squirrels drank water until I saw the tracks to the pail next to the grinder. Probably wouldn't work so well where there's a lot for them to drink otherwise.

This old trick also worked well when I lived in Denver and had a burglar alarm customer who had trouble with the drunks urinating in his mail slot. When the stream hit the wire, problem solved. Always wondered what it felt like...

Don't recommend a tie directly to a live 120v circuit, but an electric fencer ought to do the job very nicely - and a little safer - those squirrels won't anoint the mail slot or much of anything else for a while.

Hi Marv, sounds like a show. Just remembered a steady customer who got tired of paying me to rebuild the Chippendale guard in a screen door after the dog went through it several times. With their permission, and in their absence, I wired the screen to a fence charger. I was wearing sneakers and standing on a thick tile floor over 4" of concrete. Curious, I touched the screen. Got my attention. Can't imagine what a wet nose and bare feet experienced. Didn't get any more repair jobs on that door! A little electricity and critters make for fast learning.

The best way to eliminate any pest is to get rid of its food sources and nesting sites. If you don't want to eradicate the habitat, then you may be stuck with critters.

Of course they do eat good.

AND beware of any "sonic" device for DEER. Deer hear what we do. It has been proven that "deer whistles" are bogus.

Well,

In Mississippi they got into one of my sheds and STOLE my tools! Found lots of screwdrivers and such tucked neatly into the eaves of the shed where they were building a nest. Man them critters can do a boatload of damage in a hurry.

As for getting them out of a house, hire a trapper. Have had several friends go through this scenario over the years. Tried leaving doors and windows open, all kinds of stuff. In both cases several thousand dollars worth of damage was done before a trapper finally solved the problem. As for keeping them out of outbuildings, get dogs and cats.

Do not know about "ultrasonic" devices, however, the "subsonic" (.22 rimfire) devices work extremely well and are very effective, if it is "safe" and "legal" for you to use them where you are located. Good luck, Gordon in IN
