Is there a website where one can determine the towing capacity of an '88 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup?

Thanks, Glenn F.

The tag on the door gives overall GVW, and GVW front and rear, not towing capacity. Weak point in light duty is the rear axle.

The lightweight 1/2 ton frame twists and makes alignment and handling a problem when overloaded. Then it will eventually bend and/or break. We have all seen pickups with the frame bent between the box and cab. The top lip of the box is almost touching the cab yet at the base of the cab there is a couple of inches of cab/box clearance. Overloading any equipment is just a fool who is going to waste $$$ and/or hurt/kill inocent bystanders or himself.

That's what I call extreme abuse. I wouldn't even think about doing something like that. My point was most people don't use equalizing hitches, thus a slight overload, or maybe even with limits, repeatedly, the non-floating axle is going to give up. Half-tons or LD 3/4's are ok if they are used for the purpose for which they were designed.

We have all seen them. Usually on the way home from a farm auction or antique show.

Can't really say much but when I buy a truck, like my 1980 chev heavy half I rebuild it to pull/do what I want and don't worry about the tag on the door but I also do a lot to beef it up front to back.

I don't know of any, but if it is a light duty 3/4, not that much more than the half-ton, which is about 6500 with a 3.73 rear. Current 2500 HD's (gas) are rated at about 9500, I believe.
