What is the material used and where can I purchase plastic tubing for (low pressure) underground propane service?

Here in Michigan, Consumers Energy (the natural gas utility) will sell you a plastic gas line, made to your spec complete with all fittings. I haven't bought one, but they put a flyer in my gas bill a couple of years ago.

I can understand that a gas or propane company might be reluctant to sell the materials to a homeowner, but would be OK with selling a complete assembly.

I just ran 150 feet last year. I was VERY lucky to find a propane supplier to sell me the stuff ! They all want to only do the whole set up theirselves and this is mostly driven by lawsuits and insurance the same things ruining everything !

Here's what the yellow tubing say on it--
.625" X .090" CTS oil creek plastics gas tubing PE-2406 ASTM D-2513 CCC MC-43 Titusville PA. and then the date of manufacture Good Luck finding someone to sell you the stuff and the special fittings.

Polyethylene pipe with the heat fusion joints is all I'm aware of, but never seen it in a residential application. Excellent stuff and the joints are the strongest points in the system. Need special equipment to install. Copper or PE is all I've ever seen used underground.

Parker (among others) makes a flexible metal conduit with a plastic outer shell for natural gas, but I don't think it's allowed for use with propane. Even with natural gas, don't think you can have joints underground.

Must be somebody has a decent propane distributor. Everybody I talk to is tearing out their propane systems, myself included.

Any good HVAC contractor should have what you need. Depending on where you live, and what building codes are in place, the HVAC contractor may not be allowed to sell it to you unless you are a licensed installer.
