I got a V4 old pump, I need to make up new valves, since I can no longer get these on the market, what type of metal is that? can I jus use thin sheet metel? or does it have to be spring metal of some sort.

If this is your Brunner, you may want to give Berkley Compressors in Red Deer a shout, as they had loads of Brunner valves when I worked there in 2000.

Berkley Compressors (1994)Ltd.*
1-7887 49Av Red Deer T4P-2B4 (403)309-7867

If you could give them a quick call and get an email address, you could send them a picture of the pump. They did a bit of Brunner repairs, since there were many in the area and they had a cache of parts.

Roger!!! just the man I need to talk to , I was getting lots of oil blow by on my Brunner and took it to the local machine shop. he is going to replace the rings for me, he said the big ring is no problem but he is having a hard time finding the smaller rings its a odd ball size, would these people carry something like rings. or do you know of another source I can go to.
Thank.s

They may have rings, I don't know. You might try getting ahold of a Hastings piston ring catalog from an engine rebuild shop, as I was often quite lucky in finding the exact size rings for the job from other applications. You could also widen ring grooves for thicker rings if need be.

Shim stock works. I made mine out of a feeler guage that was all beat up on the end. It has lasted about 12 years, compressor gets lots of use.

Jay: Shim stock is available in many different materials depending on application. It's just stock that's available in precisely controlled thicknesses (0.001", 0.002", etc. etc.) for use as a shim. For instance, we use a lot of it at work cut into washers so we can control the depth of engagement of a bolt. Other uses are for things like shimming rear end gears, starters, and similar applications. Shim stock is available in spring steel, but it's also available in mild steel, stainless, brass, bronze, nylon, etc. etc. so you'd have to be sure that what you are using is indeed the correct material for your application. Sounds like Roger has a source for these parts--if so, you're wiser to bite the bullet and buy "real" ones.

Band saw blades are a favorite for this. Ones like a Wood-Mizer or similar saw take seem to work well.
