Invisible dog fence

I bought a Petsafe containment system for my yard which is about 2 acres. The question I have is I can"t here this thing beep! Don"t help none I"m deaf in one ear and can"t hear outta the other. Does anyone know if they are supposed to be this quiet? The wife says she can hear it but just barely. Thanks Richard

I'm writing this from the asylum. I'm here because I USED to be the inventory control manager of our invisible fence company. Frankly, it drove me nuts when I had to report inventory to my supervisor. No matter what I reported to be stock on hand, he never believed me. I tried to show him, but to no avail. The engineer who designed the system is my roommate. He is having problems trying to justify his expense account for research and development. I've heard that our boss might be coming here soon, since he has a hard time explaining everything to his lender. It started out fine, when he was working out of his garage, but after he expanded the business he had more suits to answer to. Maybe if he had waited until sales picked up, he could have run it out of cash flow. Maybe someone offshore can help him before it is too late. for him, anyway.

Just curious, do they contain you with a Shock collar or just the beeper to keep you from going over the fence?

We have the petsafesystem also. Our Lab might be the dumbest / smartest dog alive. I set the shock level to the highest and the fence zone width to the widest. It works at all times unless I leave on a tractor, then she just takes her licks and runs along. Set the collar to the highest setting and see if that helps.

I know it is hard to belive, but we trained our American Spitz at our rural home near a busy highway, to stay within 100 feet of the house all the way around all of the time.

I warned our new neighbors across the road that they needed to do something about their dog going out in the road. (my black lab got hit 2 years ago) and the road is worse race track than it was then. My daughter and I went out tonight and peeled the dog off the blacktop and boxed it up. The neighbors got home a few minutes ago. A woven wire fence works very well with my current lab.

I've had one for a few years now. Our first collar I couldn't hear as well as the one we have now. I don't hear to good either. Dogs can hear better than people so it shouldn't be a problem. I have tested mine by putting a volt meter across the terminals and when it sparks you either see it or the voltage will show a reading. The batteries last a lot longer than I would think as our dog stands at the edge alot and just lets it beep. I think some of the new collars won't let them do this. I always keep extras on hand.

Some dogs have learned that they can stand there
and let it beep till the battery runs dead and
it quits beeping. Then they can cross the fence.
Dogs are smart.

Thanks for the reply, Just seems like I could train this dog easier, better if I could here it in the beep only mode. I"ll call Petsafe tomorrow to find out if this is the best it gets. I could here the one in the video just fine but that could be sound edited. Richard

I put some vacuum line caps (from NAPA) over the electrodes on my dog's collar so that she would only hear the beeps, but not get the shock. That was for about a week, and then we took them off.

I installed a Petsafe invisable fence on my rural property to try and contain my beagle-mix. I ran wire around about two acres. She thought the beep was interesting until I turned on the zapper. It got so that if I put the collar on her she just trembles, cowers and goes in the house to hide. She has gotten to where if she hears a beep from a commercial on TV she goes and hides. She hasn't had the collar on for over a year and she is still afraid of it.

Tried it years ago...

Jake would go through it in a stubborn, headstrong lunge.

Oscar would just freeze...I'd go over and haul him out of the "kill zone" and he'd just ramble back in a freeze...you'd see his neck muscles pulsing.

Misty got shocked, decided it was Jake's fault, even though he was 200' away, and she tore into him.

I brought them all for top notch, one-on-one training last year.

What a difference!

And as of this week, I can now go out in the yard even with Jake whose always been on a leash or tie rope since I gave up on the invisible fence...he stays near me mostly on voice control -- I certainly won't brag he's well trained, but he definitely respects me now!

I think I might hook up the fence and try the training again with it!
