I have a 640 that runs great, never smokes. Yesterday oil started pouring from the top of the oil fill tube and had a drop in oil pressure. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any advise
or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Now that's very strange. Since the oil is OK on the dipstick and you have a gasser, we can rule out dilution. So something is causing oil to spray out the filler. Could you have lost a main bearing cap? If that happened, your oil pressure would drop to almost nothing.

I think you'll need to drop the oil pan to see what happened.

(You might want to repost on the Ford board.)

My 640 is a ford 4cyl. gas tractor.First of all thanks for the quick responses. My oil level was about a half quart low at the time, never any noise and always ran great. You guys mentioned gas in the oil and the day before I did notice that I used about twice as much as normal. Is a bad fuel pump the only way this can happen? I"m not sure where it is but I can figure out how to change it.

You do not have a fuel pump on a gasser 640. Pull the valve cover and check the oil feed tube in the center of the valve train. It is leaking.

Thanks Ernie, I don't understand-the oil is coming out of the oil fill tube at the bottom of the engine.

The oil feed to the rocker arm is a push in place metal tube friction fit with a rubber o ring. It has popped out. Rocker arm has lost its oil supply and most of oil feed has found its way to flood the top end. Get new o ring grommet and replace pipe.

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that you have a 640 Ford diesel tractor.

If, indeed, you have a diesel whatever-it-is, overfull oil in engine is usually a sign of oil dilution due to fuel in the oil. This is usually caused by a leaky fuel pump.

First a couple questions. What was the oil level when you started the tractor??? Did it make any funny sounds right before it did that??
Now heres a couple guess. Gas in the oil, or water in the oil. Maybe you blew a hole in one of the pistons. I have a MH 30 that had a little knock in the engine and I was going to start the engine and pull it into the shop so I could change engines in it, but before I could even put it in gear the dip stick flew about 20-30 feet and then the engine shut down. When I got it in the shop I pulled the head to see what had happened to it and one if the pistons was gone, yep rod there wiast pin in the rod but the piston was gone almost like it hadn't even been in that cylinder. Funny thing is the cylinder looks good even with the piston blowing up like it did
