My truck occasionally kicks hard when it shifts through the gears. It happens once every day or so and it seems to be getting worse. It only has 60,000 miles on it now. It started acting up a few months ago. One shop says the valve body needs replaced, one says replace valves and machine the valve body, one says shift solenoids. It is the 4L80E heavy tranny with cooler and all. Most shops are saying this tranny is not the problem one like the half tons with the 4L60E, which is apparently real bad. Any experience out there or any one been there and fixed this problem???? Thanks for any help.

We fixed a 1994 Ford pickup that started bang shifting real bad by replacing the TPS. (throttle position sensor) Evidently the position of the accelerator tells the tranny how hard to shift.

You may find the torque converter clutch solenoid is staying engaged. Because the computer told it to because it slipping, because a little vavle in the valve body is hanging up.

Real common between 50 and 100K miles.

Goodwrench sells an updated valve body but that was (I believe) well over $600 just for the part.

If it is, it should also be throwing the check engine code light for the TCC as mentioned above.

If allowed to continue it will break the clutch pack support thing and chunk up the tcc too.

No go, or above 1st gear and no reverse?

If it is setting a code, you can disconnect the battery for a minute and hook it back up. that will allow it to shift smooth till the little valve thing sticks again.

The little valve thing can be repaired for $300-400 or so. They remove the valve body, ream out the valve body and replace the valve. That's provided it doesn't have chunks in the pan.

Most shops will want to "rebuild" you trans for $3500+,

If you found someone that will do the repair thats good.
