John Deere 24T Timing Problems

I bought a John Deere 24T Last year to do my hay. It was working fine until I broke the shear pin on the fly wheel. It kept breaking so I called the local John Deere guy to set the timing. Three bales later and the feeder forks were plunged in as part of the next bale. My buddy and I then reset the timing chains and messed with it. I then baled 500+ bales. This year I took it out to do my hay. After thirty bales The shear pin went again. I have tried setting the timing. It is good for one cycle through and then the stopper stops the plunger because the timing is off. The needles seem to be going up at the midpoint of the cycle instead of near the beginning. Any suggestions?????

You have to time by the operators manual. If that is what you are doing when you say "messing" with it fine.
Check that the lever that the needle carriage lifts when it is back out of the bale case is pulling the safety stop back far enough away from the plunger crank. They get worn and don't pull the stop pawl back enough. Many have a 3/8" bolt welded along the top of the needle carrier to lift the lever a bit higher. That was a dealer fix on mine.

Replace any worn the roller chains on the baler, and then re-time it according to the operator's manual.

I'm with Bob on this, I have a JD 14T that was having timing problems, I changed all the chains, no more timing issues at all.
