I have been looking at a code scanner on eBAy that is OBD2 for 34.99 plus shipping or so. Anyone had any experience with these? I know the China are making things cheaper and cheaper. Knowing this wouldnt survive daily use in a Pro"s shop, Would this be worth a darn for the individual to own? and use like...once or twice? MAINLY for Dodge 5.9 Cummins turbo diesel. I have a code that keep coming up for minor stuff. thx

Might want to check & make sure your Dodge diesel is fully OBD-II compliant. I have a Ford Powerstroke, and a generic OBD-II code reader won't read most of the codes - Ford diesels are not fully OBD-II compliant & have a lot of unique codes. Not sure if Dodge is the same way.

check out Uncle Wally's, I got the $99 one with nice manual full of codes, the more work your vehicle needs, the quicker it pays you back

One thing to remember is that the cheaper OBDII readers will only show the generic codes and not the vehicle specific codes.
The key on/off thing only works on OBDI (pre 1995)

railhead,I am not sure about your truck but the older Dodges you turn the key on and off and back on(do not start)3 times quick and count the check engin light flashes. Check over at allpar.com.
