Leroi diesel air compressor

Hello,

I bought a 125 cfm 55hp leroi pull behind air compressor at an auction. It has a tank near the air pump that is half filled with oil. It has a gauge on it that tells how full it is. The air lines run thru it. What is this tank for. Is it oil to mix in with air for the air tool lubirication?

By the way, if you notice your new compressor loosing oil, or oil in your air lines the element in this tank is busted and will need to be replaced.

It's the separator tank. The air/oil mixture comes out of the screw set, into the separator tank. Inside this tank, there is some baffling to direct the oil stream, and a large filter (the separator) which allows the air to pass out through the discharge line while retaining the oil inside the tank. There should be a minimum pressure valve/check valve on the top of the tank, an oil level gauge, a safety relief valve somewhere in the system, and an automatic blowdown valve to release air from the tank and screwset once it is shut off. Of course, this may not be a screw at all, but a vane. The above message still applies.
