Looking for information on building your own OBD I & OBD II interface cables between the vehicle and a laptop. Also looking for a free source of software for both OBD I & OBD II testing for a laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've checked and have not found a lot of information, however I maybe using the wrong keywords in my WEB searches.

Bill

For about $50 you can get a cable, all set to go from OBD II plug to a computer connector - Oh, attached to that end is a complete code reader, check with local oaut oarts stores, eBay, etc. Got mine on eBay - works fine, reads codes, resets, etc. Of course doesn't do all the things your mechanic's unit does, but doesn't cost $2K+ either.
