I don't know as one brand is any better than another, but my preference has always been Chevy. We've got an old '78 3/4 ton that used to be our farm truck. After a life of pulling and hauling everything imaginable, it has come near it's final rest. (It's been off the road for several years.) The other day my nephew put a battery in it and after sitting for perhaps a year or so, it popped right off. Racing through the pasture, up and down hills, box rusted off, cab about 50% gone from rust, no brakes, blue smoke filling the cab, holes in the floor big enough for a raccoon to crawl through, etc....What a machine! WORN OUT, burning oil, burnt valves, etc. It still starts like a brand new truck! Sometimes you just get a good one.

Longest lasting truck I had was actually a high cube van GMC,but it had a Chevrolet 400 from a station wagon.Ran so hot[without problems]one day I took it out and put a 350 Chevrolet motor in it.I could blow off BMWs because it was fast and the box was empty. It went from 1977[1986 for me] to 2002.Then I bought the Avalanche.I like Fords too but stupid little stuff breaks like the interior parts.I mostly drive a Saturn to work. That GMC started for years as soon as you hit the starter.

I wonder if they Chevy's will hold up now that they use Isuzu engines. The old Chevy V-8 is going to be hard to out-do.

Don't laugh too loud! My old 84 Chevy has set behind the barn for 5 years and is in worse condition than the one described. Wanted to move it last weekend. Put a fresh battery in it and after some cranking (to pump the old Holley full),
And that old 454 barked to life and leveled out as smooth as if I drove it home from work the night before. Of course there was some smoke and the exhausts are long gone, but I moved it out of the way, but couldn't go far with 3 flat tires. I hope my 89' F-150 is this dependable in years to come. What's the saying? 80% of the Chevy trucks built since 1980 are still on the road, the other 20% made it home before they broke down! LoL

My 90 F150 is parked and I drive my 78 GMC. The Ford is just too expensive to keep running. Each have close to 300,000 miles on them. The GMC has cost me less than 500 in parts and zero labor. The Ford, well, I parked it when the total came up to $9,000 between parts and labor. Both bought new, never abused and only myself as driver. The old GMC just never breaks down. Yeah, it's rusty now, but so is the Ford. Fuel injection and Ford's "better ideas" are the problem! I like the GMC's mechanical clutch linkage, carb, simple HEI ignition, gear drive transfer case, manual locking hubs, bull low 4 speed, etc. Who needs all the modern foo-foo? AND, it gets half again the mileage the Ford does.

That sounds like a NEW Chevy! 8^)
