Lately I have had a problem breaking off tip cleaners in otherwise good torch tips. Anyone got any ideas on how to get them out and save the tip. Would the small priece of steal burn out by using another torch before the brass would melt. What size tips do you guys prefer for general cutting.

Hi Buddy,

If there broke off in the pre-heat orifice holes then yes you can save the tip.

If there broke off in the center cut orifice hole then buy a new tip as the orifice bore is ruined.

I like a #3 tip for my Victor torch. It's rated to cu 1-1/2" steel but easy to clean.

As IB pointed out, use a smaller wire diameter than the orifice size as this will help to preclean the orifice bore.

When using tip cleaners, I first test to see which wire will fit the jet hole. The spiral on the wire is larger than the wire. Use the next smaller wire for cleaning the tip. Take time and work slow with the small wires and gradually work your way up with the size of the wires until you reach the desired size. It takes a little time to clean a tip, but you will find that you won't be breaking so many wire cleaners.
Good Luck..... .
