I was looking at an automatic compressor drain kit from Harbor Freight. How do they work and are they any good? Where do you install them on tank? Thanks

Mine worked for a little while then started leaking. I tried everything to get it to stop and never really could.

I guess for the price it would be worth a try but mine didn't pan out.

Just looked at HF site. With my experience with Central Pnematic I would stay away.

The one that MSC has is a electronic controlled valve. Every so many minutes it purges. Don't know what controls HF's set up but with the stuff in the PIX looks to me like to many places to leak.

How much does HF get.

MSC has one on sale frequently for $100.

I have thought about it myself.

The drain goes on a fitting at the lowest point in the tank. Usually install an elbow and run a line out where it is easier to access. As to the Harbor Freight auto drain, you get what you pay for.Even if you do put on an auto drain install a manual drain as well. Manually draining the comperssor at night is the most reliable way go. Have seen lots of tanks with auto drains that had lots of water in them because no one ever checks them because they have an auto drain! Shut the compressor off when you are done for the day and blow her dry.

That's sort of my opinion too. Even with one you can't ignore the lines, they also need to be drained. Only advantage I see to a drain is that you leave the compressor on, thus it is always "ready". I often forget to start mine, thus I have to wait while the pressure builds up.
