You do realize that cutting will consume lots of oxygen.Ok if its at work but if Im paying I prefer the Milwaukee porta band deep cut style saw to save gas.It will pay for itself soon enough.Cuts pretty wide channel iron.Blades are cheap.

A very experienced welder told me to run O2 at 28psi and Acet at 7psi for most everything you run into. Works like a charm.

Adjust for a neutral flame with the cutting valve open and have at it. Less heat for thinner work, more for thicker. Should be able to put the heat on the work, count to ten and start the cut. If not, adjust the heat to achieve this setting. If it's popping and backfiring, get a smaller tip and crank the heat up.

As has been mentioned, there is no standard size torch tip between makers, so without the make and model of your torch it is impossible to give an accurate answer to that.

Hi BG,

A Victor acetylene cutting tip chart lists these specs for 1/4": Tip 00, Oxy 20-25, Acet 3-5, Speed 27-30 IPM. I've had good luck lately using lower settings (like these) than people generally use. A clean tip is an absolute must for a clean cut.

Best of luck, Stan

Tips sizes are not all the same. Each mfg has their own reccomendations. If you are using an Airco torch, they reccomend a size '0' tip, ox pressure at 30 psi, ac pressure at 2 psi.

Victor says tip size '00', ox pressure at 25 psi, ac pressure at 4 psi.

torch tip OO should be fine a locale welding shop or probably even online you can find out what size is recommended by manufacturer.

oxy line pressure between 30 and 40
Acy line pressure around 5 to 7 should cut very well
