Does anyone have a good homemade gravel drive scarifier that can be dragged via ATV or garden tractor?

Ive got a 1400' drive that I'd like to quit "dumping" gravel on as a "fix" & really get to the core of the problem & keep it nice w/ general maintenance.

Thanks for any input!

I have had people use a broken throat chain out of combine throats for a harrow. Also you could drag a manure spraeder apron chain also you be suprsed how much they will do and still flex. Cost are free ususallly. I have one right now out of another combine if you lioke it

What I would probably do is to get some CA6, that is a rock and limestone mix, put about a inch down, grade it to what you want, then let nature take its course. The limestone, with time and rain will pack and solidify like concrete. you do not want to use gravel, gravel is round and will never lay on its own and stay in place.

If you have a snow blad ,they work very well....set the blade strait cut the middle out....then set the blade at a angle and run down one side and back the other.....apiece of chainlink fence will dress it up....

A small rake works well when the drive is very wet. Early in the spring or after a soaking rain. The tines on my rake are about 1/2 inch square and do a good job of bringing the stone to the surface and leveling at the same time. Once it dries and gets rained on again the drive looks like it has just had fresh stone spread.

I use an iron gate and ATV.Got plenty of extra[free] iron railing if your near New Jersey.Last time I ran one over in the grass on my tractor it popped up and put a small dent in the sheetmetal.Still pays to collect junk.

2 years ago I hooked a 4X6 timber to the back of my Polaris ATV and I put in heavy nails on the bottom so that I could scarify my dirt lawn and plant grass seed, it worked great, of course on gravel you would need to weigh it down a lot and use 7 inch long spikes. (it was kind of redneckish, but thats me)

The company that makes the DR chipper and DR walk behind mower sells a pull behind scarifier that pulls behind a ATV or Garden tractor.

I just received my DR power grader last week, but because of all of the rain we have received, I have not been able to try it out. It appears to be very well built and the concept they use appears that it will work better than the job my box blade and my MAA does. I own apartments that have a gravel drive and it always developes pot holes and bringing in more gravel at $165.00 a load is not the answer. The DR comes with a 6 month trial period, so I figured it was worth a try.

Get a piece of I beam as big as your machine will drag, hook it up with a chain at about 30 degrees so that it dumps in the center giving a crown. Could put a set of wheels and a tounge on it so you could roll it over onto it's wheels for transport like some of the small disc harrows.
