My 12 volt Makita batteries are dying and I need a couple 9.6 and 7 volters too. Has anyone bought the aftermarket batteries off Ebay? Makita wants $70.00 for the 12's, the aftermarket types are $50.00 for 2. You can guess which way I'm inclined to go. Any horror stories? The brand is "Powertron" by Sunn battery. They have a very good feedback rating.

Well I ordered 2 and we'll see how they work, delivery time, etc. I got the "new improved" models said to last 50-75% longer than factory. I'll report back when I get them. BTW-the 2 cost lees with shipping than 1 Makita brand at Lowes or my local lumber yard.

I bought two after market replacement batteries for my 12V Ryobi, I thing they cost about $14 each(vs about $50 for one Ryobi battery) each and I am extremely happy with them.

I got them early in the winter - have not used the drill that much, but a fair amount (maybe a 45 minutes to an hour of running time) and I have not had to change the battery yet. The first one is still going strong on the first charge.

My opinion is they are better batteries with more electrical storage (14.4 mA I think) than the ones that came with the drill

If you are interested, I can find my reciept and let you know what web site I got them from.

Hi Bret;

I found some new 12V Makita brand batteries on eBay. I kept checking for a month or so before these showed up. They were about $15 or $20 less than the Home Depot price. That was about a year ago- no complaints.
Good lusck!

Roger

Try looking at rebuilding by either www.primecell
or www.batterybuilders.com I used both outfits
and they both do a good job but I'd give the tip
to primecell. I don't think they could do much
with the 9.6 or 7 volt but should be able to do
the 12 volt. I don't know much about ebay items,
but they might just be remanufactured batteries.

Rebuilt costs more than I pay at the local hardware. Two years ago was $45 + tax for the older Makita 12 volt, I think model 1210. Not many places carry them any more, just the 7 & 9.6 batteries. A couple of places on ebay have replacement 12v, with Panasonic cells. I have modified a bad 12v to accept a standard flat 15' extention cord and a pair of battery clamps to use on any auto battery.
