has any one used pelton work tunes? If so how do they work? Would they be good for mowing?

Get the Peltor "Alerts", which are a little more expensive, but have microphones so you can have normal conversations while wearing the headsets. They also turn off if the noise level gets too high. I use them all the time - including when I am driving nails, cutting with a chainsaw, driving a tractor, mowing the yard, etc.....

You can't fix your hearing yet, so they are a cheap investment.

Regards, Tip

Peltor is a major manufacturer of hearing protection gear. They make head sets for pilots and ear muff type hearing protection for any noisey environment.

Peltor Work Tunes is (are?) an AM/FM radio built into ear muffs like you use for hearing protection. They cut down the ambient noise by about 25 dB and are limited in the radio sound to 82 dB so they don't kill your hearing with your loud music.

I have had my set for aobut 5 or 6 years and use them whenever running any loud equipment.

Tuning your favorite stations is a minor problem because they only have a knob with no station numbering, so if you change bands now & then you have to search. I usually start all the way at the top or bottom of the dial depending on the station I am looking for. Also, the AM antenna is somewhat directional, so if you are listening to a weak station, you lose it when you turn your head.

Home Depot, Harbor Freight & Grizzly Tools carry them, as well as a bunch of other places. Look for the yellow ear muffs with the little antennat sticking up. Price is usually $55-60.

It is the best gift I ever asked for and received. The battery lasts a good 5 weeeks and I use it 6 days a week at least 2hr at a time. I use it to mow and on the tractor too.

Yep, I have a set and love them. Great to use when mowing or splitting wood ( the hyd log splitter needs a new muffler I think ) or whatever. They really keep the loud noises out, give you a chance to listen to music, or the news, or a ball game or whatever. I have found they block the normal exhaust and engine noise, but the other stuff comes thru and I still hear what I need to ( brush hog hitting something it shouldn't, whatever ).
