Any advice out there on makes/models of saw stands? I've got a 10" Delta currently on the homeade 2x4 base the owners manual diagrammed. Too heavy and clunky for as often as I need to move it across the room, property, or on the road. Wheels seem like a good idea, but don't see any with anything other than small cheap looking ones? Budget's a concern

Go to Tool Crib. Look at the Trojan stand--I have one and it is super. Folded it rolls around like a wheelbarrow, opened up you can lift one end a roll it around enough to chage rooms etc. And it will open to a 16 foot length so you can deal with really long stuff.

This one use to be made from 16 ga. and now is being made from 18 ga. stock. It has adjustable legs. All you need to do is put on a particle board top and maybe a shelf. Watch for the sale and get it for about $20. You will also need a portable outboard support similar to this one at Harbor Freight (Home Depot one is much better): http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=46074

I have a DW708 slider on a HF stand. I think it was $40 on sale. Needed a little tuning, but works good.

While helping with some work at my church, a contractor showed me how easy it was to set up and store the Miter Saw Utility Vehicle (MSUV) he'd just bought at HD. He got it at a better deal than me -- I waited too long and spent $99. I am VERY pleased with it. My shop is too small to leave it set up all the time, and that's why I needed a storable unit. The one I built outa 2x4's was a first step, but was way too klutzy. Seriously, in the (maybe) 30 seconds it takes to take it from a rolling cart (drop the support legs and lift the other side til it clicks in place) to a usable stand is just amazing. Really big wheels to help it roll too. The stand itself weighs over 80 lbs. Its not wussy. Contractor rolled it outa his truck onto the ground and set it up in those two clicks ready to use. It too has the extendable roller arms and built-in support legs. All adjustable and store within the MSUV. I'm not trying to make a sales pitch for the HD product -- I've looked at the website on the other one listed below and it looks good too. Just that I'm really happy with what I bought. If you can get it for <$100, it'll make you happy.
