T-BONE, AsI posted on my original message there were really good comments from all on the well water filter installation.Sounds like I need to do the "free pump" you suggested.Would I need to get a plumber to do this or is it something a serious handy man like myself could do in a week-end? Know where I could get plans for a sand trap? Thanks, Nick

Is that a jet pump or submersible? It is not rocket science to work on these things if you are the handy man you say you are which Im sure you are. By free flowing T- Bone is saying to just let it run to flush it out. right off my pressure tank ahead of my filters is my out side water supply. Someone before posted this on your first thread. If you don"t have this set up you will want it especially if you use a water softener now or in the future. You can also add 1/4" pipe to your pressure switch to raise it if you are worried about it clogging. If you respond to this I will tell you about my abandoned well journey dealing with sediment the last few days.
Serious handyman, Richard

Richard, I assume the well pump is submersible as there is no pump above ground. There is already a riser from manifold to pressure switch at the tank but the switch has been replaced at least once previously[found clogged switch discarded in pump house]. Looking forward to hearing about your experience. Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick,

Just do a search on sand filters and you'll see how simple they are. Below is a link to a couple sand filters that give you the basic idea of how they work. This one is a EPA approved sand filter that is more than what you need but has some pictures to give you a idea what I'm talking about.

Howstuffworks.com is another great source of info.

Free pump means to discharge all the water onto the ground and is a cleaning method for well bores.
