The AMS will as mentioned, soften up the water. The issue w/ glyphosate in Hard water is that it will be tied up, and less of the chemical will be active to kill the weeds. maybe not an issue if you mix and spray, but if you mix, then break down then spray, or have to quit w/ a partial tank, you most likely won't have as good of results when you start again. I'm of the opinion, that you won't get much foliar feeding boost from AMS at the levels you would use as an adjuvant, but i suppose it is possible. the advantage i see is that you might get a little burn on the weeds from the N & S in the AMS to help pull the chemical into the leaf. Also if you are in need of a drift retardant, there are few products that replace the AMS, and give you drift protection as well. I think the product we used to sell was called AIM? but i can't remember for sure. it was a very fine powder, kinda sticky that came in an orange/white bag in either 9# or 27# bags. there was also a similar product from Helena that came in a yellow bag. Both seemed to make our glyphosate work a little quicker than plain AMS, and was easier to dissolve. in summary, for the cost I'd run it, but our water is hard enough to chew, so you do what you want. btw, if you don't like the dry granules, there are several liquid products out there. Some are very reasonably priced, and easier to mix up. i'm using a product w/ my spot sprayer that i like pretty well
