I'm about to paint a bathroom in my house and would like your advice about the best paint to use. oil or water base. which would least likely to blister in the long run especially on the ceiling. i have some minor blisters now over the shower area but i will be sanding those out. this is not sheetrock, it is plaster. thanks

I've painted my entire house with Lowe's Valspar paint and not had a problem. I did the bathrooms and kitchen in the Latex semi-gloss with no problems.

My DIL works at the depot (drives 30 miles) and used a lot of Behr in their remodel project. She ran short and got some True Value (4 block drive)and said it compared very well.

Home depot and other stores sell a bathroom paint that holds up to the moisture. As far as primer, I dunno.

Is the quality of the paint from HD or Lowes as good as that from a regular paint store like Sherwin-Williams etc.etc.?

In my opinion the Home Chepo brand (Behr, correct?) and the Lowes Brand (Valspar ??) are crap, and are to be avoided. Home Chepo brand latex to paint my kid's room a few years ago - two coats and you could still see through it and the stuff was so thin and soupy it would run for about 15 minutes after cutting the corners with a brush.

I brought back what was left and demanded a decent brand for replacement - Glidden worked fine.

We used to always use Benjamin Moore from the regionally famous Spags department store - but with the advent of the big box store and "just in time deliver retail" (which means if you didn't buy it the season BEFORE you need it, you are SOL) they went the way of the dodo bird.

Oil primer, 2 coats on bare plaster.

MILDEW PROOF for top coat.

Exhaust fan.
