I got a letter from the local Ferrellgas dealer yesterday wanting me to renew my contract for $1.739 per gallon for the next year. Last year it was $1.429. Seems a little steep to me. Is anyone else signing contracts for this amount or is it time to start looking for another supplier?

These prices don"t sound too bad, I use Sabina Ohio Gas & Appliance and my last bill for 106.8 gallons of propane (top off)was $295.87 including 7% tax was $2.77 a gallon. I might as well burn gasoline. Fred OH

See my earlier reply. I just remembered why I started checking around. Ferrelgas had a floating price deal where the more you used (residential vs. residential, not res. vs. comm.), and I found that my secretary had paid less total $$ for 1,250 gallons than I had paid for 1,200. Nobody at FG had ever told me I could pay less by staying warmer, so I said to he11 with them.

All I know about Ferrelgas is that I had the company for a couple of years after it took over some other dealer. I checked with a local co-op for a solid year and found FG was never closer than 9 cents a gallon to the local. I switched and convinced about half a dozen other propane users to do the same. No FG for me, thanks.

My parents had Ferrell Gas for many years. They bought the tank from Ferrell way back when and had ecellent service ever since. Last year the old manager retired and a new one took over. Ferrell said they lost the paper work on the tank and my since parents couldn't prove they bought the tank they were going to start charging rent on it. The old manager even told the new manager it belonged to my folks, but no luck. We emptied the tank and called and told them we were charging them storeage fees for the tank. They came and go it the next day.

Dump those BUMS!
A few years back I had my fill of Ferrell Gas.Inflated prices, bad service, and hidden costs. Finally ended up dragging their tank by the road & told them to get it off my property A.S.A.P.Get your own tank and then you can shop around.I usually buy from the local co-op..friendly folks unlike Ferrell.~brad

I wish I could get it for $1.39/gallon. Even at commercial rate, I'm paying ferrallgas ~$1.80 a gallon this year.

I had a Ferrell tank at my barn 18 yrs back. They got bossy with it so I bought my own and told them to come get it. Best move I ever made. They dragged their feet and it set in my way for along time so I finally moved it down back and set it between to close trees so they had a time getting it I guess. One day I noticed it was gone.----- I like the little mom and pop gas companies. Better service.

Yep, ferrell gas wanted me to sign the prebuy contract (due 4-21-06) They wanted me to sign up for $1.59/gallon. I called and asked why they are starting so early and they said michigan is one state that is starting early. I didnt give them a check. I will likely buy a pellet stove and I might change propane suppliers. My neighbor told me that if you buy your own propane tank then it is a lot cheaper, but I think only 10cents a gallon cheaper, does anybody have their own tank so that you can shop around for the best price? The best I can hope for is to buy a pellet stove and spend $500 on pellets and $500 on propane for the winter.

I received a agreement information papers from Ferrellgas the other day also.
Mine says fixed price of $1.779 last year I was paying $1.789. Oh ya and there's the enrollment fee they charge $36.00. Last year they tried to hit us up for tank rental and we was never charged for that before.

My mother also was with this company and she decided to switch to another company. They quoted a price to her for $1.299 as of Jan. 2007 it would be $1.399. A .039 cent difference. I guess I'll be checking in to this also. So I agree with you it is a little steep.
But its there surprizes they throw at you during the year. Tank rental fee Ect. Getting hard to tell what is fair or not with them.
They have closed a lot of offices here in MI.
Got to keep close eye with them!

I'd check around a bit. Ferrel is about done for. Losing business left and right and cranking up prices badly to make up for it.

Anyone who has Ferrel stock should look at their business practices very carefully.

sounds like a deal to me. i'm on a prepay with a local dealer and it was 1.35 last year. even though i paid him cash in advance last year, they gave a credit card company my name and address without my consent. now i'm pi$$ed off with them and not to sure if i will be doing business again with this company. they mail their prices out in may so it will be a few days before i know what they're charging.
