I have a Amana frig with freezer in the top. Sometimes we get water dripping on the inside, coming from the freezer. What should I check first? The water is shut off to the icemaker. Thanks. Earl

I had an Amana refrigerator with top freezer that was not a frost-free model. The freezer had to be defrosted periodically. If this wasn't done frequently, ice would build up in the panel between the refrigerator and freezer and drip into the refrigerator compartment because of the slightly above freezing temperature.

Thanks for all your reply. I will look at it over the weekend & let you know what I find. The ice maker quit about a month ago ,I shut the water off then. Maybe good time to replace it too.If it doesn't have a crankshaft ,piston & rods ,I like to ask first. Thanks Earl

Gotta go with the others, check the drain from the freezer to the drip pan. I just went through the same thing with mine and that was the problem. Look for a tube running down the back. If your's is like mine there is a U trap at the top that you have to give like a 1/4 turn to get out. Flush it in the sink and pour just a little clorox in it to kill any bacteria growing in it. This will aid in preventing it from stopping up again.

I don't understand for sure what you mean "water dripping on the inside, coming from the freezer". Is it dripping in the refrigerator part? Any way I would check your door gasket and or see if you door adjustment has got out of whack. If either isn't right, the warm moist air from the room will leak into your freezer and or refrigerator compartment and form enough water that you will have water driping. That IMHO is the most likely cause for dripping water.

check to see if theres a drain in it and see if it clear. should be on on the back corner that leads to a pan under the frig. so when the freezer goes thru a defrost cycle . make sure your door gaskets are not ripped apart from the door.

Look on the back side for a drain that is stopped up. All refrigerators make frost/ice and ice melts to water that is supposed to run out where they want it to.

check for a drain from the freezer-the defrost cycle drains the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator--this tubing can become clogged with mold? or foreign matter--clear it with compressed air or a soft wire --run some diluted "Clorox" thru it to kill any mold --you should be good to go--Snokki

Can come disconnected too, especially after someone like myself cleans the inside and knocks it loose. Mine did that too. I guess that I should leave the cleaning to someone better and more experienced than me. Guys like myself are good at some things, and really stink the place up on others.

Lemon Pledge? What the heck is that? Thats what they make garden hoses and leaf blowers for, cleaning the dust off of the end tables and furniture and overhead fans... and walls, and bathrooms.

We have an amana one as well, we had a problem last year with the fridge not holding temperature ( and water dripping inside ).

In the back of the freezer on the bottom behind a panel is the coil that cools the freezer and refrigerator, this has a heating element in it that defrosts that coil occasionally. You might look at that to make sure it isn't all iced up.

Ours had gotten covered in ice, the power kept going out that week or two and messed up the defrost clock I think. I read on the internet you could open and close the door several times quickly and manually start a defrost cycle...

I did that several times until several defrost cycles had been done, then the coil was clear and the freezer and fridge cooled down very well again.
