O/T 85 Dodge 2500

I figure the guys on this board have run into this before. My 1985 Dodge Ram 2500 won't run. She's got no gas in the carb. There is no fuel pump on the engine so I'm thinking an electric one. Does anyone know where it is? Is it in the tank? Thanks in advance RF

Those V8 Dodges (or any Chrysler product) with carbs tended to boil the gas out of the carb after they were shut off so when they were re-started they had to crank awhile to let the mechanical pump refill the carb. Some people would change them to an electric pump so they could just sit there with the key on for a few secs to let the pump fill the carb, before they hit the starter. Jim

My 1986 has a mech pump on the engine. TB injected engines late 87 and up, would have the pump in the tank.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'll be getting into it this weekend. I'll let you know what I find. Oh and I already did check all the fuses. I pulled them each out and put'em back in also. Sometimes on these old ones you get a bad connection at the fuse. Thanks again.

Is in the tank. Been there, done that. It's nice if is low on fuel, is pretty heavy taking it down when is 1/2 or more full. Check the fuse before you go unbolting and unscrewing unplugging and...?

Be careful of a...breather I think it was. Plastic elbow off of the top of the pump. Is replaceable, but when I broke mine was back ordered from all dealers near. They didn't help me find the Dodge dealer out of state, I called around and got them to mail it. Otherwise, might still be waiting.

Factory had mechanical fuel pump located lower right timimg chain cover.It may have a fuel handling package installed with a electric pump. Follow the fuel line and you will be able to tell. david

Dodge trucks were carbureted with mechanical pumps to 1987. 1988 and up is fuel injected with the pump inside the tank. Somebody probably has added an electric pump somewhere (as suggested above), but not likely the fuel injected one in tank as they put out something like 40 PSIG and your carburetor would not like that kind of pressure. Let us know what you find, please.
