I am building a new house with a 3 car garage. We have not moved i yet and I am interested in a paint or coating to put down on the floor. I don't know much about it and have not checked around yet. Have any of you used something like this in the past? and how much might it cost to cover about 600 square feet? The garage is still empty and just muddy from dirty feet, otherwise it is bare cement.

Thank you very much in advance!

Mine is coated with grease and oil from these messy old tractors. Seems to be holding up well.

Do a search and find a site called garage junkies. It's a forum like this site. They have a whole section devoted to nothing but shop/garage floor coatings. Lots of other interesting things on that site, and you'll be amazed at how fancy some of those guy's garages are....

I have my house gutted at the moment and have been looking at different flooring options. I did not want linoleum in the laundry / utility room. However, I did not want to put in high dollar tile either. I have been looking at acid staining concrete and it can look phenominal. If you do it yourself, it is almost cheap. There are some pictures of it on the attached site. Also, another site, this guy did his floors and used 1/4" quilting tape from walmart to simulate grout lines. You could have what looks like a marble tiled floor in your garage for a couple of hundred bucks and some sweat and time on your part. Page 4 under photo gallery has a garage floor in it. The stain looks like crap until you seal it. A freind of mine has it in most of his house. The only draw back is when the slab cracks, it will show. (I am told that adds "character"). They have prices on the site too. I have also heard of using POR-15 to seal concrete. The stain will show oil leaks, I suspect. POR-15 will not.

Epoxy. Home depot. I did it in my barn 6 years ago...looks new and I use my barn. About $25/gal back then, not so bad...if the concrete is fresh, you need to etch it with muriatic acid first. Not a big deal..spray the acid on and it'll fizz and then rinse it off. The epoxy, just roller it on and trash the roller after you get done with it. Don't put sand in it for tration, it won't sweep well. If you don't put sand in it, it'll get slippery when wet, but you'll get used to it.

I know the epoxy kits at home depot are available, dont know the finished product. In my old garage I used an oil based paint on my workshop floor, no cars on it. It turned out nice.

There is DIY by quickcrete at Home Depot/Lowes. Very expensive at $60 a gallon and I think the box says you will need 3 gallons or 1 gallon per car stall.

I found the most important thing is that the paint is at least 60 degrees when you try to apply it.

Just finished a floor in our barn.

In our new firehouse, we put an epoxy coating over the concrete. There are flecks of color in the coating. It was professionally done and I"m not sure of the cost. I think you can get a DIY kit a Home Depot

I'm considering doing my shop floor. It has been down 2 years. I spill quite a bit of oil and grease while working on equipment. How easy is it to clean off the epoxy treated floors? Does it stand up to driving on and how about salt in the winter? Thanks

Like I said in my first post. This is on a firedepartment floor. Fire engines are overweight trucks that leak oils and such. It is super easy to clean and if installed correctly does not come up. It is the best stuff I have ever seen for a garage floor.
